Anne Sutherland

"I am a self-taught painter, a colorist, using thin layers of paint with spontaneous, intuitive mark-making eventually adding thicker fat paint. My work often incorporates varied materials and surfaces, creating dynamic, expressive compositions. I generally use still life and landscape references modifying compositions and color to a new point of view."

Anne Sutherland is a self-taught artist. She grew up in a small NY upstate Catskill Mountain town, was a public school teacher, raised a family in the Glens Falls Region, lived in Finland for 2 years, and was a full-time artist on Nantucket Island deeply engaged in the creative community there for 15 years. Currently, she resides in the village of Greenwich, NY, after retiring from entrepreneurial pursuits that combined art with instruction and gallery shows on Nantucket Island. Her work is represented by several galleries and in numerous collections.
