Barbara Widmann Fox

"Having recently moved from Saratoga Springs a year and a half ago, my family and I have been charmed by the natural beauty of Washington County. Rolling hills, wildflowers, hummingbirds, farms at every turn, and country life at its best. For over ten years, I have not drawn or painted, but I won’t bore you with circumstances. Art seemed to be a part of me that was in the past. I started drawing since I could hold a crayon, so I was infinitely incomplete. In prior years, I was an equine artist since drawing horses came easy. I decided to unpack the watercolor brushes and paints a few months ago and discovered a joy in the process. Painting has opened an intrigue to explore color and technique. I’ve decided to apply paint as an impressionist, which allows me the freedom to use color intuitively. It has been both anxiety-inducing and joyous to experience how colors react on paper in different degrees of water. I hope my artwork allows you to reminisce in the scenery or revel in a dance of the play on colors that impressionistic watercolor paintings portray."

Barbara graduated from Sage College, Albany, NY, with a Design art degree and an Illustration degree from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, Denver, CO. She worked as an Architectural Illustrator for several years in Colorado before moving back to upstate New York. Until recently, her primary focus was equine art in graphite, pen and ink drawings, and watercolor paintings. Barbara has been published on the cover of Churchill Downs publication and has donated artwork for New York State animal and horse rescues. In 2024, Barbara paints impressionistic landscapes in watercolor paint.
