Nina Lockwood

"My work is an exploration of what lies beneath the surface. Whether I am layering and sanding paper, assembling found materials, or working in other media, I am drawn to processes of uncovering rather than constructing. Making becomes a form of excavation—a dialogue with time, memory, erosion, and transformation. I begin with curiosity rather than certainty, allowing the work to evolve through discovery. Layers are built, altered, and sometimes removed until unexpected relationships begin to emerge. I am fascinated by what persists through change: the traces left by history, the quiet beauty of imperfection, and the possibility that removing can reveal more than adding. Rather than arriving at answers, each piece invites a closer encounter with what has endured beneath the visible surface. It is an exploration of loss and revelation, of absence and presence, and of the enduring mystery of what remains."
