Susan Reynolds

"My first artistic memory is that of sitting next to my mother when I was about three years old, drawing Dick Tracy and Betty Boop. My mother loved to draw and we would spend hours at the kitchen table with pencils and crayons. In elementary school art was always my favorite subject. Then, when I was thirteen, I had the opportunity to take drawing and painting classes at the Hyde Museum in Glens Falls. While on a tour there, I stopped at Rubens’ Head of the Moor and I was mesmerized. “I want to paint like that”, I said to myself, and it’s still my goal. This intense interest eventually led to teaching art in public and private high schools and at the college level; a position as a professional scenic artist; and undertaking mural commissions for public places. As for my individual work, I have exhibited in a number of group and solo shows, among them at the College of St. Rose, Empire State College, Wesley Health Center and Saratoga Arts Center. “What goes around comes around”, and now I am back at the Hyde Museum as a docent, taking students to see Head of the Moor. I have a working art studio and gallery in Easton where I am continually absorbed in my painting, as well as teaching classes to students at all skill levels. I love living in this beautiful area, finding great inspiration from the countryside, farm animals, horses, the colorful seasons, and even my own grandchildren. The Great Masters have always fascinated me, and so I continue to pursue my life long goal: to paint like Rubens".
